Do you accept insurance?
No, I do not currently accept insurance. This decision is due to a variety of reasons. But in the end, this decision was born from wanting to give clients the highest quality of therapy services. We aim to deliver this no matter what their diagnosis may be. Insurance companies need a diagnosis to find treatment. Often, there is not a diagnosis that fits the clients, couples, and families we work with.
I will be happy to provide my clients with a document called a superbill. They can submit this to insurance for reimbursement.
What are your counseling rates?
$275.00 for a 75-minute couples session
You may be wondering, do we need a 50-minute or a 75-minute couples therapy session? The answer depends on how often you can come to therapy. If you and your partner can come weekly then a 50-minute session will suffice. If you cannot then we will likely need a longer session to make therapeutic progress.
What kind of payments do you take?
I take all major credit cards and HSA cards.
What is your cancellation policy?
As professionals, we understand life gets hectic and you become very busy. To help as many clients as possible, we kindly request that you cancel appointments a day in advance. Otherwise, you will be charged the full fee for your session.
In the event of serious emergencies or illness, please contact us as soon as you know you! If you are unable to make it to the session, we can discuss your situation one-on-one.
What age clients will you treat?
Right now, we are seeing clients ages 16 and up. We help teens, adults, couples, and families cope with the issues bringing them to counseling. Together, we help them to find a clear path forward.
Do you offer both online and in-person counseling appointments?
Yes! We offer in-person therapy in Decatur, GA. We also offer online therapy for anyone living in the state of Georgia. To determine which is right for you, check out this blog.
How is online therapy different from in-person therapy in Decatur, GA?
Online therapy is like traditional in-person counseling. The main difference is having your session online from the comfort of your surroundings.
Research shows that online therapy is often as effective as in-person counseling. Plus, online therapy allows you to connect with a therapist from anywhere. As a result, you don’t have to worry about getting stuck in Atlanta traffic to have a counseling session.
Is online therapy confidential?
Yes. Although technology is never perfect, we use a secure telegraphy platform. This allows online therapy that’s designed to protect your privacy and maintain confidentiality.
What should I do if my spouse won’t join me for couples therapy?
First, I encourage you to speak with them about the reasons why you feel like it’s important. Have an open and honest dialogue and listen to their concerns. But, if they’re still unwilling to come to marriage counseling, I recommend you try individual relationship therapy. Here, you can work on the issues you can with a therapist. After seeing the progress you make, your spouse may have more motivation to join you.
How long does therapy usually take?
The real question is how hard do you want to work? For couples, you will do at least 6 sessions. Yet, it often takes more than that to see lasting results. When you’re willing to work hard in and outside of the session, you’re likely to make the process faster.
Will I need to do work outside of sessions?
For couples, there will be some minimal homework in the beginning. This will help you prepare for sessions. Depending on what’s worked on, I may also give some recommendations for things you can do to achieve greater relationship success.
What should I look for in a therapist?
You should look for a therapist you can connect with. Finding a therapist you enjoy working with is paramount to the success of counseling. It will help motivate you to work harder in sessions. Furthermore, you should look for a therapist who shares your values and has a counseling style that you like.
How is talking to a therapist different from talking to my friends or family?
Talking to your friends and family is great. After all, they likely know you very well. But, they do not have the specific training that a therapist has. They are unlikely to help you overcome past issues and instill tools to help you cope with future distress.
Can I just take medication to treat my mental health concerns?
Well, you can. But, you’re only putting a bandaid on a problem and not treating what’s causing your pain in the first place. Thus, you’re not going to see the same success you would see if you took medication and went to therapy or tried therapy alone. Remember, medication is only one tool to help you cope with your symptoms. Many others can be as effective or more effective in achieving lasting results.
Do you prescribe psychiatric medication?
I do not. I am not a medical doctor and cannot prescribe medication. But, I am happy to collaborate with medical professionals to make sure you’re getting the treatment you need for the symptoms you’re experiencing.
Do you write letters of accommodation?
I will be happy to write letters of accommodation on a case-by-case basis after I have gotten to know you. Please note there is an extra charge for this service.
Will you speak in court?
No. The therapeutic relationship is one designed for confidentiality. So, it’s best to keep our sessions private and not reveal intimate details in court.
For us, it means as we engage in the therapeutic process, we dive into your faith. We use your background to help empower you to make decisions. We also may explore areas of faith that have caused trauma in your life. Together, we will begin reframing your narrative from a different perspective.
